About these hockey coloring pages

Sticks, skates and pucks fly across these hockey coloring pages. Ages 3 to 5 can color a hockey stick and puck on the ice or a young player skating forward. At ages 6 to 8, a goalie crouches in front of the net and a polar bear cub pushes a puck across an icy pond. Kids 9 and up get a game of pond hockey beside a log cabin and a backyard rink with a snowman in goal, and teens and adults can work on a doodle ring of hockey gear.

The players wear plain sweaters, so young fans can color them in their favorite team colors. The pond hockey pages are also a natural way to talk about ice safety and why a grown-up checks that the ice is thick enough before anyone skates.

Also in winter coloring pages.

Hockey facts to share

  1. Hockey pucks are made of hard rubber and are often chilled in a freezer before games so they slide smoothly and bounce less.
  2. Each hockey team has six players on the ice at a time, including the goalie.
  3. The first organized indoor ice hockey game was played in Montreal, Canada, in 1875.

Color idea: Use cool blues and white for the ice and snow, pick two bold team colors for the sweaters and helmets, and leave the puck a solid charcoal gray.

Hockey coloring page questions

Which hockey page is best for young kids?

The hockey stick and puck and the young player skating with a puck both have big shapes and thick outlines for ages 3 to 5. The polar bear cub on an icy pond is a fun next step.

Can kids color the players in their favorite team's colors?

Yes. The players wear plain sweaters with no team marks, so kids can use any team colors they like or make up a team of their own.

What gear does a hockey goalie wear?

Goalies wear a mask, a chest protector, big leg pads, a catching glove and a blocker. The goalie page shows most of this gear clearly, so kids can compare it with the helmet, gloves and stick a skater uses on the other pages.
