About these basketball coloring pages

Driveway hoops, school gyms and city courts are the settings for these basketball coloring pages. For the youngest, ages 3 to 5, there is a bouncing ball and a ball dropping through a hoop, both with bold outlines. Ages 6 to 8 can color a boy dribbling under a garage hoop and a girl shooting in the gym, while the hard and expert pages feature a park pickup game, a rebound at a school game and a doodle ball swishing through a net.

Players wear plain shirts with no team names or numbers, so kids can color them in school or club colors. In PE class, use the pages as a cool-down activity and talk about the basic skills shown: dribbling, shooting and rebounding.

Also in winter coloring pages.

Basketball facts to share

  1. Basketball was invented in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, with peach baskets used as the first hoops.
  2. A regulation basketball rim is 10 feet above the floor.
  3. Each basketball team has five players on the court at a time.

Color idea: Color the ball bright orange with darker orange shading on one side and black seams, and give the court warm wood-brown tones.

Basketball coloring page questions

Which basketball page is easiest?

The bouncing basketball is the simplest, with one large ball, its curved seam lines and a ground line. The hoop and backboard page is a close second. Both suit ages 3 to 5 who are learning to color within bold outlines.

Can I use these pages in PE class?

Yes. They make a calm cool-down after an active lesson. Ask students to color the page showing the skill they practiced, like dribbling or shooting, and describe one tip for doing it well.

What color is a basketball?

Most basketballs are orange or brownish orange with black seams, which makes them easy to see. Kids can color theirs classic orange or try other colors, since some practice and street balls come in bright two-tone colors.
