About these music coloring pages

Each instrument family gets a turn in these music coloring pages. The easiest pages, an acoustic guitar and a drum with crossed sticks, suit ages 3 to 5. Ages 6 to 8 can color a girl at an upright piano and a trumpet with notes floating from its bell, while hard and expert pages show a family concert in the park and a doodle violin.

Use them in music class to introduce instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Play a short recording of each instrument and let children color the one they hear. At home, coloring while listening to music is an easy way to make quiet time feel special.

Also in spring coloring pages and summer coloring pages.

Music facts to share

  1. Instruments are often sorted into four families: strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.
  2. A standard piano has 88 keys: 52 white and 36 black.
  3. A flute counts as a woodwind instrument even when it is made of metal, because of how it makes its sound.

Color idea: Use warm honey and caramel browns for wooden instruments, gold and yellow for brass, and give the floating notes a rainbow of bright colors.

Music coloring page questions

Which music pages work for music class?

The hard park concert page shows a violin, cello, flute and tuba, a medium page shows a trumpet, and the easy pages show a guitar and a drum. Together they help children sort instruments into strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.

Do the pages include music notes?

Yes. The trumpet page and the doodle violin include floating notes as decorative symbols, with treble clefs on the trumpet page. They are not readable sheet music, just fun shapes to color.

Which page is best for a young beginner?

The guitar and the drum are the easiest, each one large object with thick outlines. Children aged 3 to 5 can color them while naming the parts, like the strings and sound hole or the drumsticks.
