About these sloth coloring pages

Sloths hang, crawl and even swim across these sloth coloring pages set in the rainforests of Central and South America. For ages 3 to 5, each page has one sloth with big, soft shapes, like a kawaii sloth hugging a branch. A river or a mother and baby sharing a branch comes in at ages 6 to 8, and the hard pages for 9 and up show a busy rainforest and a canopy walkway.

Teens and adults can take on the doodle sloth and a detailed three-toed sloth portrait. Sloths make a fun theme for a slow-down break: play quiet music, set a timer and invite kids to color as slowly and carefully as a sloth moves. It's a gentle way to practice patience.

Sloth facts to share

  1. Sloths move so slowly that tiny green algae can grow in their fur, helping them blend in with the trees.
  2. Three-toed sloths climb down from their trees only about once a week to go to the bathroom.
  3. Sloths are surprisingly strong swimmers and can paddle across rivers.

Color idea: Blend soft browns and tans with a hint of green for algae in the fur, and surround sloths with leafy greens, bright flowers and sky blues.

Sloth coloring page questions

What is the difference between two-toed and three-toed sloths?

The names describe the front feet: two-toed sloths have two claws on each front foot, and three-toed sloths have three. Both kinds have three claws on each back foot. Three-toed sloths also have a dark stripe around each eye, shown in the expert portrait.

Which sloth pages suit young kids?

Children ages 3 to 5 can start with the kawaii sloth hugging a branch and the sloth crawling slowly along the ground. Both show one large, rounded animal with almost no background, so they are easy to color with crayons.

Where do sloths live?

Sloths live in the rainforests of Central and South America and spend almost their whole lives in the trees. The hard pages show that world, with a toucan, a tree frog and a canopy walkway where visitors can spot sloths overhead.
