About these wolf coloring pages
Gray and Arctic wolves appear in these original wolf coloring pages, from a fluffy pup to a lone wolf on the open tundra. For ages 3 to 5, each page shows one wolf in a simple pose, such as a pup with big ears or a wolf howling at a crescent moon. Snowy pines or a den set the scene for ages 6 to 8, while the hard level, for 9 and up, adds a pack on a mountain ridge and the tundra scene.
An expert mandala portrait and an ornamental forest border suit teens and adults. Wolves make a good starting point for a lesson on animal families: after coloring the pups at their den, ask kids how a pack works together to raise its young. The pages also fit a winter nature unit.

Wolf facts to share
- Wolves live in family groups called packs, usually a mother, a father and their pups.
- Wolves howl to keep in touch with their pack and to warn other wolves away from their territory.
- The gray wolf is the largest wild member of the dog family.
Color idea: Blend grays, creams and soft browns for a gray wolf's coat with a pale belly and muzzle, add amber eyes, and use deep blues and violets for night skies.
Wolf coloring page questions
Do wolves really howl at the moon?
Not on purpose. Wolves howl to call their pack together and to warn other wolves away, and they are often active at night, when the moon may be up. The easy howling page shows the classic picture, which makes a good moment to share the real reason.
Which wolf pages suit younger kids?
Children ages 3 to 5 can start with the easy pages: a wolf pup sitting with big ears and a wolf howling at a crescent moon. Kids ages 6 to 8 can move on to the gray wolf in snowy pines or the pups playing outside their den.
What kinds of wolves are in the pictures?
Most pages show gray wolves, whose coats can be gray, black, tan or nearly white. The hard tundra page shows an Arctic wolf, a white-coated subspecies of the gray wolf that lives in the far north of Canada and in Greenland.
