About these zebra coloring pages

Bold black-and-white stripes make these zebra coloring pages a favorite for bright markers and crayons. Ages 3 to 5 can color a zebra foal with a fuzzy mane or a zebra trotting with its tail swishing. Kids ages 6 to 8 get a zebra grazing with a little oxpecker bird on its back and a mother standing beside her foal, and ages 9 and up can watch zebras cross a river or graze under a baobab tree with a giraffe.

Teens and adults can try the doodle-striped zebra and a detailed zebra portrait. For an art lesson, have kids color the easy foal with a different color in every stripe, then compare the results and talk about why real stripes may help zebras keep biting flies away.

Zebra facts to share

  1. No two zebras have exactly the same stripe pattern.
  2. Scientists have found that biting flies have trouble landing on striped coats, which may be one reason zebras have stripes.
  3. A zebra foal can stand and walk within about an hour of being born.

Color idea: Color the stripes black or deep brown for a realistic zebra and leave the gaps white, then add golden grass, olive acacias and a warm blue sky around it.

Zebra coloring page questions

Does every zebra have the same stripes?

No. Each zebra's stripes are as unique as a fingerprint, and even its left and right sides don't match. On the expert doodle page every stripe gets its own pattern, so no two colored zebras will look alike either.

Which zebra pages suit preschoolers?

The easy zebra foal with a fuzzy mane and the zebra trotting with its tail swishing. Each shows a single big zebra with wide stripes and almost no background, which suits ages 3 to 5.

Do zebras have to be black and white?

Adult zebras are black and white, and young foals often have soft brown stripes that turn black as they grow. Coloring time is the place to experiment, though: try rainbow stripes, or fill each stripe with a different shade of one color.
