About these zoo animal coloring pages
For favorites that don't have a collection of their own, these zoo animal coloring pages gather zebras, hippos, flamingos, kangaroos, meerkats, sea lions and more. Each easy page, for ages 3 to 5, shows a single animal with big, clear shapes, like a flamingo standing on one leg. The medium level, for ages 6 to 8, adds a pool, a sandy mound or a gum tree, and ages 9 and up see a busy family day at the zoo and a tropical aviary.
Older colorists get an expert mandala of animal heads, a doodle rhino and a detailed moonlit zoo. Before a class field trip, print a few zoo coloring pages and let students color the animals they hope to see, then bring the sheets along as a checklist. They also work well for a pretend zoo at home on a rainy day.
Zoo Animal facts to share
- Every zebra has its own unique pattern of stripes.
- Flamingos get their pink color from natural pigments in the tiny shrimp and algae they eat.
- Hippos spend most of the day in water to keep their skin cool and protected from the sun.
Color idea: Keep zebra stripes crisp in black and white, then let the other animals pop with flamingo pinks, russet kangaroos, purple-gray hippos and leafy greens for the habitats.
Zoo Animal coloring page questions
Which animals appear on the zoo pages?
You'll find zebras, hippos, flamingos, kangaroos, meerkats, sea lions, rhinos, parrots, toucans and more. Lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes, penguins and monkeys each have their own collections, so this set focuses on other zoo favorites.
Are there zoo pages with people in them?
Yes. The hard pages include a family day at the zoo and visitors crossing a bridge inside a tropical aviary. They are a good way to talk about how to behave around animals on a field trip.
Which zoo pages suit preschoolers?
The easy pages are best for ages 3 to 5: a zebra with bold stripes, a hippo peeking out of the water and a flamingo standing on one leg. Each shows one animal with thick outlines and almost no background to color.
